Crown to appeal Dotcom's release

Kim Dotcom could be out of his million dollar mansion and back in jail as soon as Tuesday.

The Crown, on behalf of the US Government, are to appeal the North Shore District Court decision to grant bail to the German millionaire.

A hearing has been set down at the High Court at Auckland on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Crown Law in Wellington confirmed the appeal was going ahead but declined to comment further.

Dotcom's lawyer, Paul Davison QC said he was preparing for the appeal but also declined to comment.

Dotcom was granted bail at the North Shore District Court on Wednesday.

He is not allowed to use the internet or his personal helicopter, and can not travel more than 80km away from his mansion in Coatesville, just north of metropolitan Auckland.

The US Government is seeking to extradite him to the United States, but a hearing on that is likely to be six months away.

The 38-year-old is accused of breaching international copyright laws to the value of US$500 million through the company he founded - file-sharing site Megaupload - in what US prosecutors allege was a "mega conspiracy''.

The FBI wants to extradite Dotcom and three associates to the US to face charges including conspiring to commit racketeering, conspiring to commit money-laundering, copyright infringement and aiding and abetting copyright infringement.

He strongly denies any wrongdoing and has consistently said he would not try to leave NZ.
