Whanganui Police need public's help with information about aggravated robberies

Black Bull Liquor in Dublin St was robbed by a bike-riding male armed with a hammer.

Whanganui Police have hit a brick wall as they investigate several aggravated robberies and are pleading with the public for information.

Area Commander Inspector Nigel Allan says police have thoroughly investigated all of the recent aggravated robberies in Whanganui.

"We take this matter very seriously, aggravated robberies are vicious crimes and the distress they cause to the victims is hugely concerning," Allan said.

"We are determined to identify the offenders behind these hideous crimes and hold them to account wherever possible."

Police are continuing to investigate the robberies earlier this year of Black Bull Dublin St (July 7), Black Bull Duncan St (May 23), Gull Victoria Ave (May 24), Hospital Dairy (August 27) and the April 2017 robbery of Castlecliff Camp Store.

"However, we are at a stage where our current lines of inquiry have been exhausted," Allan said.

"For that reason, we urge anyone who may have information about any of these incidents to contact Whanganui Police immediately on 06 349 0600. If you wish to give information anonymously you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Please don't hesitate to contact us, even information you might consider to be minor could be crucial to our investigations.

"We want to reassure the Whanganui community that police have made arrests a number of other aggravated robberies in which businesses have been targeted.

"We continue to work closely with business owners to ensure they know how best to keep themselves safe and avoid becoming a victim of crime. If any business owner has concerns, we encourage them to contact us and we will assist any way we can."
