A Taranaki mother has pleaded not guilty to stopping someone from saving her daughter's life.

A charge sheet states on June 25 last year, without lawful justification or excuse, the mother impeded another woman's attempt to save the girl's life.

The girl died two days later.

Stuff reports the school-aged girl died of a suspected suicide.

The 34-year-old mother has also pleaded not guilty to six other charges relating to child neglect, that span six years from March 2011 to June last year.

It's alleged the woman wilfully neglected her child by failing to provide adequate food, shelter and a safe environment.

The woman is on custodial remand and is due to appear in New Plymouth District Court on September 27.
