Man who filmed up womens' skirts to be sentenced

A man who used his mobile phone to film up the skirts of women in shopping centres will be sentenced tomorrow.

The 42-year-old Helensville man pleaded guilty at the North Shore District Court to making an intimate visual recordings. The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison.

Part of his bail conditions included not going to Westfield shopping centres in Albany and Hobsonville.

He has been granted interim name suppression to tell his extended family of the charges.

According to the police summary of facts, released to APNZ this week, the man made 250 recordings on his cellphone of women shopping between July and September last year.

Police say there are no "known victims" because the women cannot be identified. The videos were taken without them knowing and focused on their chests, bottoms and legs.

Most of the videos had sexually explicit titles but police only laid charges in relation to 22 of them.

The man was caught by a Farmers security guard in the Albany mall filming a woman with his cellphone and the security guard called police.

The man told police he made the videos because filming women "excited" him. He said he didn't think it was hurting anyone because the women didn't know that they were being filmed.

Last August a man escaped jail in Sydney after pleading guilty to taking more than 1000 pictures and videos up women's skirts over a year.

Sabapathy Chandrahasan, 57, received a nine-month suspended sentence from a magistrate in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court, AAP reported.
