A man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing from police and attempting to hide as a football fan.
Police had been conducting speed patrols in the Huapai area when they spotted a motorcycle allegedly travelling at 110km/h on State Highway 16 – 30km/h faster than the posted speed limit.
Senior Sergeant Bill Russell, Auckland motorways manager, said police tried to conduct a vehicle stop but the motorbike fled.
“No pursuit was initiated but the police Eagle helicopter was able to quickly get overhead,” Russell said.
“The crew has then spotted the rider entering the Huapai Domain where he has allegedly parked on the footpath and attempted to blend in with football fans watching a game.”
However, Russell said the 32-year-old man was swiftly taken into custody.

“We are committed to keeping people safe on our roads and individuals who chose to drive or ride in a reckless or dangerous manner will be held to account.”
The man was charged with failing to stop and will appear in Waitākere District Court on Friday.
That incident started with an aggravated robbery where police said the alleged male offender stole an electric trail bike at knifepoint on Coliseum Drive, Albany.
The police Eagle helicopter located the bike being driven on the Northern Busway southbound, and continued to track it as it exited at Constellation Station and made its way on to the Northern Motorway.
The 15-year-old rider was seen leaving the motorway at Tristram Ave and heading for Becroft Park, cutting through a game of football before heading towards Milford.
The teen fell off the bike on Bevyn St and was placed under arrest, then charged with aggravated robbery, reckless driving and possession of cannabis for supply.
