Graphic footage emerges of alleged robber being beaten

Online footage has emerged of an apparent vigilante attack on a liquor store robber.

The footage shows a man, wearing a blue hoodie, being kicked twice in the head by one man and then punched in the side of his body by another while on the ground.

The man stands up and is bleeding from the head.

The incident is apparently in response to a man stealing from a liquor store in Tokoroa.

One of the men can be heard on the video saying, "This is what you get for stealing. We've got you mother f****er".

The Herald is trying to verify when and where the video was shot.

A police media spokeswoman said police were called to a fight outside a liquor store on Bridge St just after 6pm on Thursday night.

A Super Liquor worker confirmed a fight happened outside the store on Thursday night, but that it had not been robbed.

"The younger ones were making fun of the older ones and then a friend stepped in and had a go at the older ones and it has escalated."

She said two younger people then kicked an older person to the left of the shop near the train track. "It was two on one."

Police spoke to two people at the scene, but everyone else had gone and no complaints were laid.
