Earlier, he had said: “The safety and security of the prison is our priority. We take threats to the operation and security of our facilities very seriously and have detailed protocols for dealing with incidents of this nature”.
A police spokesperson said they received a call about 8.40am reporting a threat.
This is not the first time Manawatū Prison has faced a bomb threat.
In 2015, police attended the prison to investigate the threat, but did not find a bomb.
