Cricket NZ and Government agree to disagree over tour

The Government and New Zealand Cricket today agreed to disagree over the Black Caps tour of Zimbabwe.

NZC chief executive Martin Snedden, Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff and Progressives leader Jim Anderton met at the Beehive this morning to discuss the tour.
The parties said the talks were positive but neither side was changing its stance over the tour which will go ahead in August.

Mr Snedden said he shared New Zealanders concerns about what was happening in Zimbabwe but was tied to International Cricket Council contracts.

Mr Goff said he understood the pressures New Zealand was facing but would still go ahead with banning visas stopping the Zimbabwe team touring here in the summer.
