Crashes in Dunedin, Palmerston North leave two dead, three injured

Two people are dead after car crashes in Palmerston North and Dunedin.

One person died and three others were injured after a State Highway 56 crash near Palmerston North.

A police spokesperson said police were called at 7.30pm last night to the two-vehicle crash.

One person was found dead at the scene. Another had serious injuries and two others moderate injuries.

“The Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination and enquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a woman died in hospital this morning after a serious crash in Dunedin on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said the crash near Moeraki Boulders Rd on SH1 in Hampden was reported about 4.20pm.

“The woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with critical injuries and sadly passed away early this morning.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

The spokesperson said the crash is being investigated.
