A crash on the Southern Motorway that blocked the fast lane caused frustration for those travelling south earlier this morning.
Traffic was reported to be banked back to the harbour bridge on the Northern Motorway and St Lukes on the Northwestern Motorway not long after the two-car crash which happened near Market Rd around 7:30am.
The New Zealand Transport Authority warned motorists to allow extra time to reach their destination this morning.
A photo tweeted by NZTA shows one of the cars involved in the accident sitting across the lane, its nose into the centre barrier.
The transport agency said while the accident which blocked the fast lane for half an hour was now clear, traffic was now congested from the city to Greenlane.
A police spokeswoman said the accident happened just after 7.30am and there were no injuries.
A vehicle breakdown near Rosebank Rd has further compounded congestion on the Northwestern Motorway, causing citybound traffic to back up between Lincoln Rd and the CBD.
The broken-down vehicle has been cleared, according to the NZTA.
