Court rejects chef's appeal against 6-year term

Robust sentences are needed to deter sex offences against Wellington women, a Crown lawyer told the Court of Appeal. Lawyer Madeleine Laracy supported the 6-year jail term imposed on Wellington chef Brijess Kumar Gupta, 25, for attacks on two women on November 19, 2000. The Court of Appeal dismissed Gupta's appeal. He is to be deported as soon as he is released from prison.
