Former Christian Heritage Party leader Graham Capill is to face six new sex abuse charges.
Capill pleaded guilty in April to indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
His sentencing has been deferred.
New charges outlined in Christchurch District Court today were rape, unlawful sexual connection, attempted rape and indecent assault.
All involved two girls under 12 years old, with the alleged offences between 1990 and 1999.
No plea was entered.
Capill was remanded on bail until June 28 for a further hearing, on the condition he did not associate with the complainants or witnesses.
The new charges are based on allegations by two women who told police they were molested by the former police prosecutor.
