Courier van crashes through barrier into drain

A courier van has driven through a steel barrier and ended up in a North Shore storm drain today.

The van landed on its side in the Target Road drain in Wairau Valley about midday, Inspector Cornell Kluessien of northern police communications said.

The driver escaped injury, he said.

A crane was needed to lift the vehicle out.
