Couple accused of ruining Fijian holidays face fresh charges

A couple accused of ruining Kiwi holidays in Fiji could face fresh charges.

Anita Cranston, 34, and Craig Mudgeway, 48, appeared at the Auckland District Court today.

Each is charged with obtaining more than $1000 by deception.

Their lawyer, Tony Bouchier, indicated they would be entering not guilty pleas.

Judge Stanley Thorburn said he would adjourn the case to allow police "a fair opportunity" to lay further charges.

APNZ understands the pair are alleged to have taken too many bookings for a holiday home in Fiji and kept deposits from customers who couldn't stay there.

They were bailed to a lodge in the Hawke's Bay area.

The address is suppressed but APNZ can reveal it is a luxurious lodge set in landscaped gardens.

Judge Thorburn ordered Mudgeway to report to police twice a week as part of his bail conditions.

The pair refused to talk to media waiting outside court. They climbed into a waiting taxi and shielded their faces from cameras with a briefcase.

Mudgeway and Cranston are due back in court in November.
