A frustrated Auckland motorist has been dealt a dose of instant justice after his attempt to illegally beat the heavy traffic was foiled.
On Wednesday afternoon a road user fed up with congestion at Auckland's SH1 Port on-ramp decided to take matters into his own hands.
Unaware apolice car was sitting in traffic, the naughty driver pulled out of the congested lane onto the left-hand shoulder before attempting to speed off and overtake hundreds of cars stuck in gridlock.

The driver's day then went from bad to worse when the police car turned his lights on and gave chase, much to the delight of the road user who captured the moment on his dashcam.
"As soon as I saw the cop in the lane next to me I knew it was only a matter of time before someone would use the lane trying to beat the queue," the dashcam owner told the Herald.
"When I saw the van I was hoping the policeman would go after him and it felt great when he did.
"It felt like instant justice to see someone who thinks they are more important than everyone else get what they deserve."

He told the Herald that there is often a large queue waiting at the lights to enter the motorway and is fed up seeing multiple cars using the left shoulder which is only used for emergency vehicles and trucks.
Social media lit up after the video was posted online with many putting the knife into the driver and praising the officer for dishing out a dose of instant karma.
"I used to use this on-ramp every day for almost a year and got so frustrated at people doing that. This instance justice feels good, man," one person wrote.
"Awesome work Mr copper. These people are f***wits. What right do they have to cut ahead of the traffic that everyone else is 'patiently' waiting in", another wrote.
It's not the first time a road user has been caught trying to illegally beat the traffic when a man placed a mannequin in the passenger seat in an attempt to use a restricted traffic lane (T2 lane).

The unusual looking passenger was spotted by a Waitemata police officer in a T2 lane on Auckland's Constellation Drive on-ramp in 2015.
Police pulled the car over and found the "passenger" was a mannequin with a bandaged head and sunglasses.
"The driver was rather sheepish, apologised and said it was the first time he'd done it. He was given an infringement notice for unauthorised use of a special vehicle lane," senior sergeant Brett Henshaw of Waitemata Police told media.
