A cop car and a cow collided in Canterbury last night, killing the animal and seriously damaging the patrol car.
Police said a constable from Darfield was uninjured in the crash on Clintons Rd, Darfield, about 6.15pm.
However, Senior Sergeant Roy Appley said there was "substantial damage to the police
vehicle which he was driving".
"The cattle beast that was hit has not survived the crash," he said.
"Inquiries are underway to locate the owner of the cattle beast."
