Michael Scherger's infamous "boner" essay shocked teachers at Cambridge High School and became a hot topic on talkback radio shows nationwide.
But now, almost three months after the Year 10 student put pen to paper, the issue has finally been resolved.
Michael Scherger's parents, Heather and Peter, Cambridge High School principal Alison Annan and the Commissioner for Children, Roger McClay, have met and hammered out a resolution.
Michael Scherger was stood down in May for the maximum five-day period for his essay on the topic, "How does your body betray you?"
The 15-year-old wrote about a teenager who had an embarrassing erection, "a boner", in class.
Heather and Peter Scherger were furious at the school's response and hired a lawyer.
Mr McClay was also critical of the school and local residents organised public meetings to discuss the situation.
Mrs Scherger said the outcome of the meeting with Mrs Annan was confidential, but both sides had made compromises.
"Mike's situation is pretty much resolved but there are still some other issues out there with other people that hopefully will get looked at as well.
"Everybody gave a little bit. We're happy with it and the school's happy with it."
But Mrs Scherger said a lot of people in the town were still unhappy with the way the school had dealt with discipline.
