Colour this successful event lavender

A bit of rain didn't stop people visiting the Lavender Abbey field on Sunday to pick their own lavender.

Stuart and Jan Abernethy opened the lavender field on their rural Carterton property to the public on Sunday, an annual event.

"We've had a lot of people through," said Mrs Abernethy.

"It's been good. It's been a busy day."

She said people who pick the lavender usually dry it out and make lavender bags or stick it in a vase.

Mrs Abernethy makes her own line of products, and her latest is a lavender and hops sleeping pillow.

She said there were a few new faces this year although a lot of people were repeat customers.

"It's nice to see them back again."

She said they would be harvesting the flowers about two weeks earlier than last year.
