For the second year running the Wairarapa College first XV have proved themselves to be the top co-ed secondary schools rugby side in the Hurricanes region.
They won the 2004 title when they beat Wanganui City College in the final played at Wanganui by 18-15.
It was a hard-fought encounter with the
two teams being locked together at 15-15 with just a few minutes to go. Wairarapa College was awarded a penalty and Jason Kjestrup was on target to give Wairarapa College a narrow win.
A strong first half effort paved the way for the Wairarapa College success. They played into the wind but still managed to share possession with a big and physical Wanganui City pack.
Try scorers for Wairarapa College were Daniel Blong and Abe Haira with Kjestrup kicking one conversion and two penalties.
The win capped off a fine season for the Wairarapa College side which made the final of every competition in which they played.The majority of the team will be leaving school at the end of this year and it will be interesting to follow their progress in various provinces around the country.
