Student success and achievement was celebrated last Wednesday at Wairarapa College's annual prizegiving as the 2012 academic year draws to a close.
Principal Mike Schwass said the prizegiving was a fantastic evening and a "wonderful event to bring a close to the 2012 year for our seniors".
"It is agreat opportunity for the Wairarapa College community to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our students throughout the year in cultural, sporting and most importantly academic areas," he said.
The audience was entertained by performances from Cantate, Ruby Bennett, the college orchestra and jazz band, Waicol Strings and Alex Fafeita, who performed the Barber of Seville Overture by Rossini and arranged for drums by Vadrucci.
Dux for 2012 was awarded to Liam Jolliffe, who came first in physics, mathematics with calculus, mathematics with statistics, chemistry and geography.
Proxime-Accessit was Ruby Bennett and both Ruby and Liam received Victoria University Excellence Scholarships along with four fellow students.
The Year 12 top scholar was William Rogerson and Year 11 top scholar was Kaitlin Buick.
School leaders for 2013 were also announced and head boy will be Michael McDermott and head girl Maria Taylor, while their deputies are Emilio McFadzean and Annemieke van Vliet.
