Auckland City Mission services are being pushed to the limit as the organisation struggles to raise donations to meet demand.
The mission has made an urgent call for donations, with its winter appeal $100,000 short of its target three weeks ahead of the deadline.
It relied heavily on the major
fundraising appeal to be able to carry out its services, which come under huge pressure during the winter months, and if more money cannot be raised services may be compromised, said Missioner Diane Robertson.
"When an appeal doesn't meet its target we really feel the pinch. It means we have to either take the money from somewhere else in our already stretched budget, or cut back on the services we offer. The ones who suffer most are the families, children, the homeless and the elderly who desperately need our support now and into the future," she said.
Mission services include emergency assistance and longer-term support, homelessness services, an inner-city medical centre, Drug and Alcohol Addiction services and food distribution.
