City Mission's Christmas menu to help thousands

Nearly 500kg of chicken and ham, 600kg of vegetables, 500L of ice cream, and 2500 slices of Christmas cake.

There's the shopping list for Auckland City Mission's Christmas Lunch.

Up to 2500 guests are expected.

City Missioner Diane Robertson says more than 500 volunteers will work through today preparing, cooking, serving and cleaning.

She says some of them won't see anything of Christmas Day, because they'll be stuck in the kitchen.

Santa is due to arrive at the Mission about 1.30pm to hand out presents.
