Christmas road toll at three

The road toll is at three for the Christmas holiday period so far.

The toll period began at four o'clock on Friday afternoon.

A man died after a car crash at Geraldine in South Canterbury yesterday evening.

He was identified as Gareth Toby Waller, a 29 year old local man.

The other fatalities on the roads on Christmas Eve were at Waitara, Christchurch, and Waiuku.

The Waiuku crash is understood to have happened for 'medical reasons' and won't be included in the official toll statistics.

Twelve people died on the roads last Christmas holidays.
