One dead after single-vehicle crash on Jones Rd near Christchurch

One person has died after a serious single-vehicle crash south of Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Jones Rd and Curraghs Rd shortly after 7.45am.

Police confirmed the sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

Hato Hone St John said one ambulance, a rapid response unit and an operations manager responded to the scene, before referring all further inquiries to police.

Jones Rd remained closed for much of the morning while a scene examination was carried out.

The road has since reopened.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said three crews from Rolleston, Wigram and West Melton were dispatched at the request of Hato Hone St John.

The West Melton crew was later stood down, while the other two crews remained on site assisting emergency services.
