Out-of-control North Canterbury vegetation fire sparks major response

Five fire crews and two helicopters are fighting an out-of-control vegetation fire in North Canterbury this afternoon.

A burn pile near Broomfield has ignited a paddock and a nearby hedge.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews from Amberley, Pines Beach, Waipara, Woodend and Hurunui are attending.

Canterbury is currently experiencing hot temperatures in the high 20s, with strong and gusty northwesterly winds.
