Officer injured in alleged Christchurch Airport assault, two arrested

A police officer has been injured and taken to the hospital after being allegedly struck in the face at Christchurch Airport overnight.

Police say the officer approached two people around 1.50am who were “behaving in a disorderly manner”.

One of the people then struck the officer in the face.

Further officers arrived and two people were arrested.

Hato Hone St John sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

The officer was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.

A man, 29, is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today, charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A 24-year-old woman is due to appear in thecourt on November 26, charged with obstruction.
