NZDF confirms Military Police investigation at Burnham Military Camp

Military Police are in the early stages of an investigation at Burnham Military Camp near Christchurch.

A significant number of personnel from the 2nd/1st Battalion are being questioned.

The Herald understands cellphones have been seized and the investigation is related to drug offences.

It’s understood that at least 10 personnel at the camp have been spoken to so far.

A New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) spokesperson confirmed to the Herald in response to questions that an investigation had been launched but wouldn’t comment on its nature.

“The New Zealand Defence Force can confirm an investigation, conducted by NZDF Military Police, is underway at Burnham Military Camp. We are unable to comment further,” they said.

Burnham Military Camp, 30km south of Christchurch, hosts about 1300 military and civilian personnel who work on base.
