More than 1000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $1.1 million have been seized at a property in Christchurch.
A search warrant targeting cannabis operations uncovered the plants at an address in Waltham earlier in the week.
Four men, aged between 37 and 39, were found at theproperty and arrested. They appeared in court on charges of possessing cannabis for supply, cultivating cannabis, and participating in an organised criminal group.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tania Jellyman said police won’t take organised crime lightly.
“We will not tolerate this type of offending and further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation continues.
“By locating and seizing these cannabis plants we have prevented them receiving payment that would have gone to fund a range of organised criminal activity in our community.
“We will continue to target illicit drug operations on commercial scales such as this, as we see the harm it causes and the impact it has within our community every day.”
The search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation by police targeting the production of cannabis on a commercial scale.
