Dashcam shows near-miss outside Shirley Boys’ High School and Avonside Girls’ High School in Christchurch

Chilling footage has emerged showing the moment a car nearly collided with multiple school children while overtaking another vehicle in Christchurch.

The dashcam footage, which was shared on Facebook, shows a red Subaru driving down the centre of Travis Road in New Brighton, outside Shirley Boys’ High School and Avonside Girls’ High School, shortly after 8am.

Children can be seen riding their bicycles in the moments before the near-miss.

The car speeds past two cars as it narrowly misses a pedestrian crossing the road.

Police said they were making inquiries into a vehicle that was reportedly stolen from Harewood Road just after 9am that matched the description seen in the footage.
