Crash between a car and cyclist in Sumner, Christchurch causes serious injuries

A crash between a car and cyclist in Christchurch on Sunday afternoon has resulted in serious injuries.

Emergency services were notified of an accident on Evans Pass Rd in the suburb of Sumner at 5.30pm.

Police said initial reports indicate the cyclist sustained serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash happened near the intersection of Sumnervale Dr and Evans Pass Rd.

A fire and emergency shift manager said it sent two fire trucks and a support vehicle to the scene and administered first aid, before St John took over.

There were no reports of anyone being trapped.

The road is currently closed and motorists have been asked to avoid the area, with traffic management being arranged.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
