The Herald understands the woman may not have been the intended target.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jo Carolan initially said police were “following strong lines of enquiry” into the shooting.
“Police would like to reassure the community this is believed to be an isolated incident with no increased risk to the public,” Carolan said.
“Police are concerned around the dangerous and violent act in public and have an increased presence in and around Christchurch as officers carry out reassurance patrols.”
Today, police confirmed the investigation had wound down due to a lack of information about the shooter.
“Police have exhausted all lines of enquiry with no new leads available at this time,” a spokesperson said.
“If any further information comes to light, we will investigate.”
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 105, quoting file number 251110/6195.
