Christchurch motel death remains a mystery

Investigations are continuing into the unexplained death of a woman in a motel in Christchurch yesterday.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was discovered at the Terra Vive Motels yesterday morning.

Her death was being treated as unexplained, police said.

"Police are undertaking ongoing inquiries on behalf of the coroner," Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey said."

A post-mortem will be conducted today and police hope to complete a scene examination later today."

The death had been referred to the coroner, who would determine the cause of death, Mr Harvey said.

No further details would be released until formal identification had taken place and the woman's next of kin had been informed.

Terra Vive Motels declined to comment on the death, referring all questions to police.
