BITTERLY cold weather with wind and rain made Sunday's Tea Creek Road hillclimb, run by the Wairarapa Car Club, unpleasant for officials, competitors and spectators. The popular annual event attracted 28 entries from around the region, with a particularly strong contingent from the Kapiti club.
Overall winner Stephen Farqher was one
of them, blasting up the winding gravel road in his Lancer Evo in 89.81seconds to head off Wairarapa entrant Peter Clendon in a VR4.
John McAndrew, brother of former national champion Joe McAndrew, was fourth.
There was another family connection on Sunday, with Graham Moran campaigning Roger Brader's RX3 in the 2001 and over division and son Clinton Moran competing in the 0 - 1300cc class in a Sunny.
There was only one incident, a driver going through a fence and finishing up in a paddock but with no great damage.
