About 18 communities around the country were involved so far.
Masterton Primary School staff liaison Sue Smith said it was a great opportunity.
"It's really being an active part of the community and not expecting adults to do everything," she said. "It just ties in beautifully with everything our school stands for."
Children performing any of the safety activities can be nominated for a recognition award and prize pack in their school assembly.
Outstanding nominations will be entered into an achiever of the year JNS prizegiving to be held at the end of each year.
Nomination boxes and forms are at Wairarapa Community Centre, Masterton District Council, Genesis Recreation Centre, at participating schools or at mshcc.org.nz.
Schools can contact Mrs Taylor-Waitere on (06) 378 8900.
