A child suffered smoke inhalation injuries following a fire at a Wellsford home in the early hours of this morning.
Northern fire communications shift manager Colin Underwood said they were alerted to the fire on Worker Rd around 2.25am.
Due to the size of the blaze, the fire service's response was stepped up to "second alarm", he said.
A child who was in the house at the time suffered smoke inhalation injuries, but it was unclear how many people were in the house at the time of the blaze, Mr Underwood said.
There were no other reported injuries.
Mr Underdown said the northern fire communications centre also received 15 firework-related calls overnight.
Although they did not cause any considerable damage, it was a surprising number of calls for the first weekend of firework sales, he said.
