A six-year-old boy is in a critical condition after he was hit by a car in Otara, South Auckland.
A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances rushed to Ashton Ave at 3.10pm.
The child was in a critical condition and was transported to Starship children's hospital, she said.
Witnesses told Stuff the young boy was running across the road from a house to a 21st party, being hosted in a church, when he was struck by a car.
It is understood the driver of the car is speaking to police.
The Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene.
A resident of the street told NZME she had written Auckland Council to ask for yellow lines along on side of Ashton Road and a pedestrian crossing near St John's School.
"Cars parking along Ashton Road at school pick up has been a problem for a long time but no one has made a formal complaint to the council," one woman said.
"My community isn't the type to complain, but I feel something needs to be done, it has always been a concern of mine."
