Child aged 4 dies after being hit by forklift in Canterbury

A 4-year-old child has died after being hit by a forklift south at a residential property just south of Christchurch.

Police said the child "died following an incident involving a forklift at a residential property on Robinsons Rd, Prebbleton".

Police were alerted around 1.50pm.

"The child received medical attention, however, sadly died at the scene," Police said.

"Police offer their sympathies to the family during this tragic time."

Worksafe said it had opened an investigation into the accident.

"We understand the child was struck by a forklift," it said.
