Auckland Girls' Grammar has been named the Goodman Fielder School of the Year ahead of 85 other New Zealand schools.
Judges commended the school on its diverse range of academic programmes, relationship with the community and standard of education delivered to its 1275 secondary school students.
"It's just awesome, you could hear
the cheering from the classrooms when it was announced," said Di Hatch, the deputy principal.
Auckland Girls, which also took the prize for the top secondary school, receives $50,000 cash.
Wylies Crossing School in Otago won the best small primary/intermediate in the annual awards, announced yesterday.
Russell Street School in Palmerston North took the prize for the best medium primary/intermediate and Tauranga Intermediate School was awarded best large primary/intermediate.
Otamatea High School in Northland won best composite school.
Each category winner receives $10,000.
