Charges laid over prison standoff

Police have charged George Baker over the hostage drama at Auckland Prison.

He is alleged to have taken another inmate hostage two weeks ago, sparking a standoff with police and prison staff.

The incident ended peacefully.

Baker's now been charged with kidnapping, assault with a weapon and threatening to kill.

The 28-year-old is expected to appear in the North Shore District Court Friday week.
