Charges laid following Dargaville pub brawl

Six people face charges following a weekend attack on two police officers outside a pub in Dargaville, about 125 km northwest of Auckland.

The accused, all from Dargaville, face charges including resisting police, trespassing, disorderly behaviour, obstruction, assault on police and criminal nuisance. They will appear in Dargaville District Court on November 8.

Senior Sergeant Kerry Watson and Constable Sarah Hewitt were called to a fight at the Northern Wairoa Hotel on Saturday night. They say they were set upon by up to 15 people, and couldn't leave the scene to attend a fatal road smash a few kilometres away.

Mr Watson partially lost consciousness and is still recovering, while Ms Hewitt has returned to work.
