Charges after Southland domestic incident

A man is to appear in Invercargill District Court today to face charges in connection with a domestic violence incident which prompted an Armed Offenders Squad callout.

Police were called to the incident at Wendon, 30km north west of Gore, at 5pm yesterday after a woman was seriously assaulted and needed hospital treatment. Two children were present at the property.

A 30-year-old man left the property and was later arrested as he fled from another property, Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle of Invercargill police said.

The Invercargill Armed Offenders Squad was called in as the man had access to firearms.

The woman remains in hospital and the children are being cared for by family.
