SPACE FOR SPONSORS: Laura Saba, Visitor Experience Supervisor at Pukaha Mt Bruce, shows a supporter where their purchased hectare is located during the relaunch of Pukaha's Sponsor a Hectare fundraiser.
The Pukaha Mt Bruce Sponsor a Hectare fundraiser was relaunched last Thursday.
For a $25 donation for each quarter hectare, visitors can choose their piece of Pukaha and 'own' it for an entire year, said general manager Helen Tickner.
A large map has been erected in the Pukaha Visitor Centreand red dots allocated to each purchased hectare.
While plenty of hectares are still available, she doesn't think it will be long until the whole map is covered with red dots.
"This hectare programme was originally launched by the Mount Bruce Trust Board in the early 2000s and we still have a number of hectare owners out in the community - many of them overseas.
"But it was time for a refresh and a relaunch and we think that as a gift for that hard to buy for person, or as a corporate or school donation it's an easy and fun idea.
"Who doesn't want to own a piece of Pukaha?"
Purchaser of the first original hectare sold, Glenys Hansen, was at the relaunch and she challenged all other grandparents to purchase a hectare for their grandchildren and help to preserve the forest for future generations.
