Cereal millionaire considers return to politics

Breakfast cereal millionaire Dick Hubbard says he may get back into Auckland politics.

Mr Hubbard, who beat John Banks to the Auckland mayoralty in 2004 only to be dumped three years later, says he won't run for mayor of the new Auckland super city, having publicly backed Manukau Mayor Len Brown.

But Mr Hubbard said he may stand for councillor if it would help prevent the right-leaning Citizens and Ratepayers party controlling the council, the Sunday Star-Times reported.

Mr Hubbard said Citizens and Ratepayers had a user-pays, privatisation agenda which he opposed.

He said the super city should try to create a sense of community, something he saw in Waitakere and Manukau but not in Auckland City.
