Eventually, the building manager found the entrance to the building shaft with Catrick stuck at the bottom.
The Fire Service was called this morning but just before they arrived, Catrick climbed up a piece of fabric that had been left for her and darted off again.
Firefighters joined the search for the missing cat but this afternoon she remained at large on the busy city street.
"She's now free to go and eat something at least, but she hasn't been outside in the three years I've lived here so she'll be very scared. The only other times she's been out is when this other cat chased her out the window," Mr Duda said
Duda was amused that TV3 was at the scene before the Fire Service, followed shortly afterwards by APNZ.
