Cat attacker charged

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with wilful ill-treatment of an animal after a cat was found hanging from a street sign in Tauranga.

A member of the public found the cat tied to the sign in Bellevue on October 28.

A search at a property yesterday led to the boy's arrest, Detective Sergeant Peter Blackwell of Tauranga police said.

He said the cat was &34;brutally attacked& 34; and subsequently died. The boy is to appear in Tauranga Youth Court today.
