A new plan to promote business and economic growth in Carterton is set for action with the appointment of an economic development ambassador for the district.
Jo Wisler has been appointed to the new part-time role, which was created as part of the council's recently developed economic development strategy thataims to encourage business growth, create jobs, increase income, attract investment and promote Carterton as a commuter hub.
Having worked as an estate agent in Carterton for the past 10 years, Mrs Wisler was an integral part of setting up Carterton Business District Incorporated and is passionate about contributing to the district's future.
"I am really excited about this opportunity as it gives me the opportunity to sell Carterton," she said on accepting the role. "I love this community as it has real heart and soul."
She will be responsible for carrying out the action plan developed as part of the economic development strategy, reporting to the council's economic development working group comprising councillors Greg Lang, Russell Keys and Jill Greathead.
Creating jobs in Carterton was a big part of keeping people happy, Mr Lang said. "The vision is 'where the heart is humming' - it's about people being happy and positive - if the town is humming everyone is content.
"Our mission is to encourage business to set up and grow in Carterton by encouraging investment, providing promotion and information, ensuring effective mentoring and advice, and reducing bureaucracy and other barriers."
Mrs Wisler will also be looking for opportunities to work together with the other Wairarapa councils and with existing businesses throughout Wairarapa, as well as investors and funders to help create economic gains for the whole region.
