"Our reaction is pretty much the same as anybody, we are shocked. We are shocked that they are [allegedly] so young, but your next step is just to make sure that mum is okay."
He said his mother came home from Auckland Hospital last night and her physical injuries were beginning to heal.
"For now it is keeping a close eye on her to make sure she's comfortable and hope she recover and goes back to her normal life."
The family was grateful for the support they received, he said.
"It's nice to know that we have received this overwhelming positive support because we are a pretty small family."
Lily Pritchard-Davis, 17, appeared in Auckland District Court today charged with aggravated robbery, theft and two charges of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
She has not yet entered a plea.
Two other suspects, under the age of 17, have been "identified," said a police spokeswoman.
They are currently in CYF custody on an unrelated matter and police are in the process of arranging to speak with them.
"Both are under the age of 17 and we are therefore limited to any further discussion on this aspect, but we can advise that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident."
