Carjacking victim talking; discharged from hospital this week

A 65-year-old woman viciously beaten by two girls is now able to talk and likely to be discharged from hospital this week, her family says.

Meanwhile, the pair responsible for the attack are still on the run.

Nancy Voon was sitting in her car outside the Panmure YMCA on Wednesday when she was approached and attacked by two young women as she waited for her son.

She suffered a broken bone in her face, chipped teeth and bruising on her body after she was kicked in the head and stomach.

Police had been unable to speak to Voon due to the nature of her injuries, however her son Chee Phua told the Herald she was now able to speak.

He said she is likely to be out of hospital sometime this week, but will remain an outpatient.

He said he has been able to talk her but declined to comment any further about the incident.

Voon remains in a stable condition in Auckland City Hospital.

Police said today investigations into the incident were ongoing and they were yet to make any arrests.

CCTV footage shows the pair, thought to be of Maori or Pacific descent, approaching the vehicle where Voon is. The remainder of the video was too violent to release.
