Car with children inside flips north of Whanganui

A car packed with adults and children has flipped on State Highway 4 north of Whanganui, blocking a lane.

Police said the crash happened near Kakatahi near Raupiu Rd just before 9.30am.

All those in the overturned car escaped with minor injuries.

Fire and ambulance services were heading to the scene.

The New Zealand Transport Agency has warned motorists there could be delays in the area.

A police spokeswoman said all the passengers had managed to safely get out of the vehicle.

The crashed car remained in the middle of the lane.
