Car smashes through Wellington travel agency Helloworld

A woman leapt from her desk just in time as a car came smashing through the Wellington travel agency she was working in.

Police, fire and ambulance were all called to the Helloworld agency in Miramar just before midday today, after a car crashed through the building.

An ambulance spokesperson said those involved were treated at the scene, and only had minor injuries.

A police spokesperson confirmed that injuries were minor, but said inquiries were ongoing to establish what caused the accident.

Witness Andrew McPherson said the driver was an older man, in his 70s or 80s.

"The fire service said that he had a heart attack or stroke, and accelerated from Miramar Avenue on to the pavement.

"There was a lady at the desk that saw the car and jumped out of the way, fortunately all the staff are alright, just damage to the store and shaken staff."

Helloworld has not returned calls for comment.
